Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication

[Task 5.2]: How do you see communication and critical thinking impacting your future roles as a leader in the workplace?

Organizations tend to value employees with skillsets of effective communication and critical thinking as it is one of the biggest determining success factors in project management, and so a leader who has these skills can prevent poor team member engagement and attrition in the workplace. Thus, effective communication and critical thinking are essential soft skills that will impact my future role as a leader, as they will enable me to work well with others, perform well and achieve the goals set for myself and my team in the workplace.

The roles of a leader typically include setting a vision and the goals to be accomplished in order to visually define to the team members how our role plays a part in contributing and driving the workplace to become more successful. As well as to also be an effective role model and practice productive time management to avoid conflicts arising from poor or ineffective communications that impact the rate of success in achieving the goals set out.

Therefore, as a leader, I must be able to not only build-up on my skills of communication and critical thinking, but to also be able to empower and develop my team members to promote an effective workplace environment through eliminating ambiguity in communication. Consequently, my future role as a leader would need to be able to think critically, communicate with clarity so as to logically approach, deconstruct and apply sound reasoning to articulate my arguments with validity and credibility.

In conclusion, a person who can engage the other party to actively listen, comprehend and interpret their information of an issue-based on their judgment that is objectively analyzed and assessed is a good leader.
